ADE eHouse: Construction Update > Framing

In the following series of photographs the home is being framed with the wood harvested off the land. The net savings of using the harvested wood is approximately $60,000 on this project.

The frame consist of full dimension lumber, 2"x12" floor joists, 2"x10" rafters and 2"x6" walls. The structure is sheeted, decked and sub roofed with 1" boarding boards. The total superstructure is fastened together with star head lags and construction adhesive. The sheathing is fastened with galvized ring nails.

The house has been positioned to use the radiant heat from the sun in the winter and the roof overhangs have been calculated to shade the home from the heat of the summer sun.
